The Ministry of Agriculture has rolled out a new mechanized farming scheme aimed at increasing food production and supporting large-scale farming across Nigeria.

The program includes the distribution of tractors, automated planters, harvesters, and irrigation equipment to farming cooperatives at subsidized rates.
During the launch in Kano, the Minister said the scheme would help reduce manual labor and significantly boost output for crops like maize, rice, and soybeans.

Farmers in several Northern states who participated in the pilot phase confirmed that mechanized farming helped them reduce planting time and improve crop uniformity.
Agricultural economists say the scheme could help stabilize food prices and reduce reliance on imports.

The Ministry also announced plans to train thousands of young Nigerians on modern farming techniques through agricultural extension programs.
