The National Sports Commission (NSC) has launched new high-performance training centers across the six geopolitical zones to help Nigeria develop world-class athletes ahead of upcoming international competitions.

During the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, the NSC Chairman said the centers include modern gyms, recovery rooms, and digital analysis studios that track athlete performance.
Coaches will now be able to evaluate speed, strength, and technique using video analysis tools—something previously unavailable in most local training facilities.

Athletes who participated in the first training sessions described the facilities as a “major upgrade” compared to previous camp environments.
Sports analysts say the centers could help Nigeria improve its medal count in global tournaments if the programs are consistently funded.

The NSC also announced partnerships with local universities to support research on sports science and injury prevention.
Officials promised to expand the initiative into secondary schools to identify young talents early.
