NCDC Unveils New National Disease Surveillance Platform

2025-11-11

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has launched a modern digital surveillance platform designed to detect and track outbreaks more quickly across all 36 states.

During the inauguration held in Abuja, the Director-General of the NCDC explained that the new system allows real-time reporting from hospitals, laboratories, and community health centers. This means suspected cases of infectious diseases like cholera, Lassa fever, and measles can be flagged immediately, allowing health officials to respond faster.

The platform includes mobile tools that health workers can use to upload symptoms, test results, and patient information while in the field.
International health partners praised the system, saying it brings Nigeria closer to global monitoring standards.

Some healthcare workers expressed concerns about internet connectivity in remote regions, but the NCDC assured that offline data capture features have already been built into the platform.
Officials believe the system will significantly strengthen preparedness and improve response time during future public health emergencies.
