Mr. Adesegun Peter Talabi, secretary of the Civic Liberation Front (CLiF), has reported credible threats to his life following his outspoken campaign against the alleged diversion of Osun State Local Government allocation funds.
According to Mr. Talabi, between September and December 2022, he received multiple threatening messages through encrypted voice recordings and handwritten notes warning him to halt his advocacy.
The threats escalated on 2 December 2022, when Mr. Talabi was approached while shopping in the Igbonna area of Osogbo by occupants of an unregistered black Toyota Sienna van. The individuals, claiming affiliation with the political group “Egbe Asotele,” warned him to cancel a planned rally on 7 December 2022, threatening his life should he proceed.
Further reports indicated that on 6 December 2022, unidentified persons, believed to be political operatives working for “Egbe Asotele,” were actively seeking information on Mr. Talabi and his immediate family, making his environment unsafe.
The Bureau has accepted the case and referred it for investigation. Meanwhile, Mr. Talabi has been advised to relocate to a safer location until the outcome of the investigation is determined.
